The short version
Your fishing spots, paths, photos, and notes are your data. FishPin stores them in a private database tied to your account. We don't sell, share, or analyze your fishing locations.
What we collect
- Account: your email and name, and (if you sign in with Google) your Google profile photo.
- Location: your GPS position, used to show you on the map, record trails you choose to track, and fetch local weather. We only read GPS while the app is open, while you have a trail recording or an anchor watch active (including in the background, with a persistent notification on Android), or while you are actively navigating.
- Your province (optional): if you agree when FishPin asks, the app works out on your phone which province you're in and sends us only the province name, so we can see where FishPin is used. Never your GPS position or your fishing spots. Turn it off anytime in Settings › Privacy, and the province we stored is erased.
- Your saved data: pins, paths, trip stats, catch photos, emergency contacts, and settings — all stored on your phone and (when online) synced to your private cloud account.
- Fish-scan photos: when you tap "Scan a fish", the photo you selected is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI for identification and is not kept by us.
- Device identifier: a random ID generated on your phone so we can enforce one active device per account (protects your data if your login is stolen).
- Purchases: when you buy FishPin Lifetime in the app, Google Play handles the payment. We never see your card, GCash or other payment details. Google tells us the purchase happened, and we store its purchase token and order number with your account so your unlock follows you to a new phone and a refund can be applied.
- Trial check: when you start a trial, FishPin sends us a one-way fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) of your phone's Android ID. It can't be turned back into the ID, and we use it only to allow one trial per phone.
Who we share data with
FishPin needs a handful of external services to work. Each one only sees what it needs and nothing more:
- Private database — stores your account and synced data on secure, access-controlled servers.
- Google Sign-In — if you choose it, Google verifies your identity.
- Google Play — handles in-app payments, and runs Play Integrity to confirm the app is the genuine Play Store version when a trial starts. We receive only the purchase confirmation and a pass/fail result, nothing that identifies you.
- Anthropic Claude AI — receives the photo when you use fish-scan, and your messages when you use the website chat, under Anthropic's own privacy terms.
- Open-Meteo — receives your approximate location (rounded to ~500 m) when fetching weather and marine forecasts.
- Mapbox & MapTiler — receive the map coordinates needed to render map tiles.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — receives your search query when you look up a place.
We never pass your fishing spots, saved pins, or trip history to any of these services.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone, ever.
- We don't show you ads.
- We don't share your fishing spots with other users.
- We don't track your location when you aren't navigating, recording a trail, or watching your anchor.
Website chat assistant
The chat assistant on this website is separate from the app. When you use it, we keep:
- Your messages and the replies, so the assistant can follow the conversation and our team can help if you ask for it. Answers are generated with Anthropic's Claude AI, which receives your messages to write a reply.
- Your general area (country, region and city), estimated from your internet connection. It is often approximate, and it is never your exact position. We don't store your IP address.
- Anything you choose to tell us, like your name, town, phone number or email, so we can follow up if you're interested in FishPin.
We use this only to answer you, follow up on your request, and understand which places FishPin reaches. We never sell it. To have your chat details deleted, email fishpinsupport@gmail.com.
SOS messages
When you send an SOS, FishPin opens your phone's own SMS or Share sheet with the message pre-filled. The message leaves your phone through your carrier — it does not pass through our servers. We keep a small record on your phone (not in the cloud) so the 60-second cooldown and 30-minute warning still work if you force close the app.
Your rights
You can review, edit, or export your data at any time from inside the app. You can also permanently delete your account from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion wipes your pins, paths, catches, emergency contacts, purchase record and account profile from our servers and your phone. It cannot be undone.
How long we keep data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our database immediately. Short-lived server logs (used to spot abuse and crashes) are kept for up to 30 days and then discarded. The phone's trial fingerprint is kept after you delete your account, but no longer linked to any account, so deleting and re-creating an account can't start another trial on the same phone.
Children
FishPin is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll bump the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect.
